As Oman enters the 50th year of the Glorious regime of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the National University of Science and Technology celebrates the graduation of a new cohort of students of Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences programs under the patronage of H.E Dr. Ahmed  Mohammed Obaid Al Saidi, Minister of Health of the Sultanate of Oman, on 7th January 2020, at Al Bustan Palace Hotel. The graduation and award ceremony took place in the presence of Sheikh Salem bin Said bin Hamad Al Fanah Al Araimi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Chancellor of the National Univesity of Science and Technology , Dr. P Mohammed Ali Pro Chancellor &  Chairman University Executive Board  NU, Members of the Board of Directors Ms. Khulood  bint Mohammad bin Rashed Al Fannah Al Araimi, Ms. Budoor Mohamed Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi  and Ms. Fadwa bint Salem bin Said Al Fannah Al Araimi, Mr. Mohiuddin Mohamed Ali .  Dr. Allie Karshenas, Associate Vice President of Clinical Research, Operations and Institutional Advancement at the University of West Virginia  and Dr. William Petros the Dean School of Pharmacy represented WVU with which National University of Science and Technology has an academic partnership. Prof. Simon Jones the Vice Chancellor , Dr. Salim Khamis Ali Al Araimi the Deputy Vice Chancellor of National University of Science & Technology,  the Deans of NU Colleges  and members of the NU Management were also  present. 110 students of the twelfth batch of Medical Doctors and 46 students of the thirteenth batch of pharmacists graduated at the ceremony held on the 7th of January 2020.

The ceremony began with the national anthem and recital of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Simon Jones the Vice Chancellor of NU (His Speech Attached).  H.E Dr. Hamed Mohammed Obaid Al Saidi, Minister of Health delivered the keynote address.  He congratulated the young graduates and in his message he said “This is a great achievement and reflects the enormous contribution of the National University of Science and Technology in building the Nation”. ( His Message Attached)   Dr. Allie Karshenas in his address congratulated the graduating students. He emphasized the value of prevention, healthcare versus sick care to take precedence in their careers as physicians and health care practitioners. (His Speech Attached). In a message from the Vice President and the Executive Dean of West Virginia University of Health Sciences Dr. Clay Marsh congratulating the graduates urged them to make a solemn promise to use their education and skills in the service of humanity

Message from the Minstry of Health
It gives me a great pleasure and honour to take part in this year’s graduation function of the National University of Science and Technology, College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy. This is the second graduation under the auspices of the National University.  The College of Medicine and Health Sciences has graduated 897 MD, Doctors of Medicine and 633 Bachelors of Pharmacy so far.

This is a great achievement and reflects the enormous contribution of the National University of Science and Technology towards building of the Nation.  We in the Ministry of Health are very happy as to the quality of the medical and pharmacy graduates from the National University of Science and Technology.

On this happy occasion, we would like to congratulate all the graduates and their families on their successful achievements.  We also would like to express our sincere appreciations to all the staff of the National University, for their untiring efforts in ensuring that the students receive the highest quality of education.

We wish all the graduates and their families, all the very best in their future endeavours.

The patron of the ceremony, H.E Dr. Ahmed  Mohammed Obaid Al Saidi,  and Dr. Salim Khamis  Ali Al Araimi the Deputy Vice Chancellor & Provost of NU honored the students with special awards sponsored by Sheikh Salim bin Said Al Fannah Al Araimi and Ms. Khulood Al Araimi in the name of  Late Mohammed Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi for excellence in academics and community service activities. The recipients of the academic excellence awards were Rohan Castelino, Buthaina Said Abdullah Al Harthy and Rana Hamood Abdullah Al Maqbali.  The recipients of the best citizen award for contributions in extracurricular activities and community services are  Afaf Rashid Hamdan Rashid Al Hatmi, Ms. Sumia Salim Mubarak  Al Qalhati and Fahad Othmani.   Dr. P. Mohammed Ali, Chairman University Executive Board NU is the sponsor of the international training award.  This award was conferred to Ms. Pasent Gharib Saadelin Zaki . Graduates with high honors and honors were also felicitated for achieving distinction in Medicine and Pharmacy programs. The graduates in their valedictorian address shared their experiences and expressed their deep sense of gratitude to all those who supported them during their journey.

The chairman of the Board of Directors of  NU, Sheikh Salem bin Said bin Hamad Al Fanah Al Araimi and Dr. P Mohammed Ali  Chairman University Executive Board , presented a memento to H.E Ahmed  Mohammed Obaid Al Saidi.

It was a proud moment for National University of Science and Technology as College of Medicine is the only private medical school in the country providing high quality education to the students from Oman as well as from other countries since 2001. Till date, 896 have graduated with MD degree, 633 with B. Pharm degree and 94 with a degree in Health Sciences.
The Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.  Mohammed  Al Shafaee Dean, College of Medicine and Health Sciences (His Speech Attached).  The program concluded with sincere thanks to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his visionary leadership and with prayers to Almighty for his good health and long life. The management of National University of Science and Technology congratulated the graduating students and their parents. The support of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health was duly acknowledged.
