A global celebration at the National University..

H.E. Dr. Souad Bint Mohamed Ali Sulaiman Al-Lawati sponsored the University Day and a lecture on “The Role of Universities in Building Global Citizens”.

The National University celebrated (its annual University Day) under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Suad Bint Muhamed Bin Ali Bin Sulaiman Al-Lawati, Minister of Arts Affairs, in the presence of a group of officials at a global celebration along with a national lecture titled (The Role of Universities in Building Global Citizens) delivered by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, Republic of India.

H.E. Dr. Souad Al-Lawati congratulated the National University on its annual celebration, which indicated that it established scientific concepts focused on scientific work, as it is a very important day to celebrate, whether for academics or students.
Dr. P. Mohamed Ali, Chairman of the National University Executive Board, noted that we are happy to celebrate the second anniversary of the National University, which is witnessed by a global participation of Dr. Shashi Tharoor. Adding that the National University has succeeded in its mission by graduating more than 8000 students.

Ms. Bodour Bint Mohamed Bin Rashid Al-Fannah Al-Araimi, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Council of the National University, stressed that celebrating the University’s Day is an establishment of the prestigious scientific status achieved by the National University during the past years through which the university succeeded in presenting itself as a distinguished private university in its academic programs, and emphasizing its noble academic mission that proceeds from the principle of development and building the Omani and Arab citizens to contribute in driving development forward. The celebration of the University Day will remain an annual tradition to celebrate the accomplished achievements and will be considered as a platform for laying the foundations through which we seek to develop the educational system and provide the best services to students.
Dr. Salem Bin Khamis Al-Araimi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Provost of the University, pointed out that the National University works extensively on the development and excellence in education and research through international academic collaborations that lead the university to be internationally recognized university driven by social values. Stressing that celebrating the second anniversary is granting the University’s administrative and academic staff the opportunity to review many aspects of work and strive to develop them to serve the community.

Brief bio sketch of the National University of Science and Technology:
The National University of Science and Technology is a qualitative progression of two premier institutions, Oman Medical College and Caledonian College of Engineering, which have created an impressive legacy in producing high quality professionals in the disciplines of Medicine, Pharmacy and Engineering.  Around 8000 quality professionals have been trained and graduated by these Institutions since its inception.

The National University announced the establishment of a College of Graduate Studies and Doctoral College during the years 2019-2021. The academic management of the programmes in Pharmacy, Medicine and Engineering have been tailored to meet the quality requirements of three Internationally reputable academic partners viz West Virginia University (USA), Glasgow Caledonian University (UK) and University of South Carolina (USA).  These academic partners are involved in the development and delivery of all relevant programmes for the faculties of Pharmacy, Medicine and Engineering. It ensures high quality pedagogy, training and research across the institutions.  

The NU Colleges very soon became centres of excellence in education, training and research in the three disciplines of Pharmacy, Engineering and Medicine.  They have created a legacy in education and research in the three disciplines and contributed significantly in the transformation process of the human capital in the Sultanate of Oman.  They earned recognitions, awards and appreciation for their excellent performance in the delivery of the academic programmes.  The Caledonian College of Engineering was the first engineering college to be accredited by the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA).   Internationally renowned Accreditation Agencies like IET UK and CIOB UK, have adjudged the quality of all engineering programmes in addition to the institutional compliance with ABET, USA.  They have proved their dedication for creating knowledge through professional research in all disciplines.  The academic departments and faculty have been adjudged to receive major, minor and FURAP research grants from the Research Council, Oman.

The NU has an excellent legacy of producing more than 8000 professionals in Medicine, Engineering and Pharmacy.  Most of the employers prefer them and many of the alumni are in key positions.  Similarly, they figure prominently in the premier internationally known Universities for higher studies.

The University Day
As a tribute to the dedication ceremony of 2018, the University has decided to celebrate the University Day in the month of December of every calendar year.

National Lecture Series:
The University is committed to the public and community and it figures prominently in our priorities.  The University would like to go beyond the academic boundary to communicate with a diverse audience of the community. The National Lecture Series is a public platform to share the views and ideas of persons of international eminence.  The NU believes that the dissemination of ideas through a personal interface of a speaker with a matured audience may create sparks of quest for further enquiry.
