The National University of Science and Technology (NU), Sultanate of Oman, whose aim is to contribute to the development of the higher education sector of the country, is commencing its operation in the Academic Year 2018-19. This University is formed by merging three existing higher educational institutions in the area of engineering, medicine and pharmacy into one entity. Accordingly, this is a multi-campus institution focused on offering undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees.

Currently, the university operates out of five campuses and sites of learning namely:

The five campuses offer a variety of programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and they also provide opportunities for continuing education and lifelong learning. The programs are designed to be responsive to the needs of industry and national development priorities and are offered in the areas which include engineering, medicine, pharmacy and health sciences with the intention to expand further.
The range of qualifications that the University awards are as follows:

The University also offers short courses and industry-specific training programs primarily through its Continuing Education and Corporate Training Centre in a range of areas including engineering, management, Laboratory practice and software.

College of Medicine and Health Sciences
Doctor of Medicine (MD Medicine)

College of Medicine and Health Sciences offers a six years program in Doctor of Medicine (MD). There are two years of premedical studies, two years of basic biomedical science, and two years of clinical training. At the present time, both the premedical studies and preclinical are conducted at the Sohar Campus. The premedical academic year is divided into three distinct well defined semesters.

Clinical training is completed in hospitals and clinics of the Oman Ministry of Health, located in Sohar and Rustaq. Following graduation from the MD Program, graduates are required to successfully complete a one-year clinical internship in a recognized teaching hospital prior to medical licensure or undertaking postgraduate medical specialty training.

In Oman, post-graduate clinical internships are completed under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, while post-graduate medical specialty training is completed under the auspices of the Oman Medical Specialty Board.

Job opportunities: MD graduates are currently practicing medicine or are engaged in postgraduate medical specialty training throughout the GCC, or in countries of Africa, Asia, Europe or North America.
 
College of Pharmacy
Bachelor of Pharmacy Programme

College of Pharmacy offers a four years program in Bachelor of Pharmacy aiming to be recognized nationally and internationally for quality education in pharmacy and research in pharmaceutical and health-related topics. College of Pharmacy is located in Bowshar Campus, in Muscat. In the final year, after the completion of all required courses, the students spend 15 weeks of professional training which involves 7 weeks in a community pharmacy, 7 weeks in a hospital pharmacy and 1 week of industrial industry. Before beginning their clinical rotations, students are given a white coat and recite the Oath of a Pharmacist during a traditional White Coat Ceremony.

Job opportunities: Pharmacy Practitioner, Pharmaceutical Industry, Pharmaceutical Research, Database Management, Medicine Information Centre or continue to Postgraduate studies.

College of Engineering offers ABET compliant 4 years BEng programs which are envisioned to produce engineering graduates to lead from the front in pursuit of systematic and continuous change in the areas of academic, industry and society.
BEng Chemical Engineering

The BEng Chemical Engineering (CHE) program is a four year degree program which is envisioned to impart knowledge in a focused area of chemical engineering to pursue a career in industry or continue in graduate studies.

The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of graduate work including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project.

Job opportunities: The Chemical Engineering graduates could be employed in a wide range of fields and occupations. Most often, they find employment opportunities in the Chemical & Process industries, Oil& Gas Industries relating to their specialization, as design engineers, process engineers, materials engineers, quality and maintenance engineers and environmental engineers etc. They could also be entrepreneurs, teachers and researchers.
 
BEng Civil Engineeringe

The ABET-accredited BEng Civil Engineering Program offered by College of Engineering is a four years degree program. This programme relates to the introduction of the most common practices of civil engineering.  It leads on to cover areas such as wastewater treatment, solid waste management, structural design and the rehabilitation of structures.  Modules such as Environmental Sciences are introduced to create awareness of environment-related issues, important for the protection of natural resources. Students also learn how to manage the execution of projects by setting goals, planning time, preparing budgets and considering indicators of quality while at the same time being sensitive to environmental constraints.

The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of undergraduate work listed in the curriculum below including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project.

The Civil Engineering program offers five areas of concentration: Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, and Construction Engineering. Students may choose to select program electives to satisfy the requirements for an optional concentration must complete 5 courses of 15 credit hours from the list of the concentration electives and 1 course of 3 credit hours from the list of Technical Electives.
Job opportunities: The Civil Engineering graduates have opportunities for employment in a wide range of fields and occupations. They find employment opportunities in the construction industries relating to their specialization, as design engineers, site engineers, project manager, quality engineers and environmental engineers in Oman and abroad. They could also work on construction sites, consulting firms, government institutions, or peruse postgraduate education.They could also be entrepreneurs, teachers and researchers.
 
BS in Quantity Surveying

BS Quantity Surveying (QS) program is a four year degree program for those who want to gain knowledge in a focused area to pursue a career in industry or continue in graduate studies. The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of undergraduate work listed in the curriculum below including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project.

Job opportunities: The Quantity Surveying graduates of College of Engineering will pursue their career in the fields and occupations covering broadly as Cost planners, entrepreneurs, teachers and researchers. Most often, they find employment opportunities in the Construction industries relating to their specialization, as Quantity Surveyors’, Contract administrators, Commercial Mangers and project managers. They could also be entrepreneurs, teachers and researchers.
 
BEng Computer Engineering

This programme prepares the students to be successful in computer engineering practice and to be able to pursue advanced studies in computer engineering and computer science here or abroad. The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of undergraduate work including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project
Computer Engineering Programme has two areas of concentration-1. Networking 2. Software Development
Students may choose to select program electives to satisfy the requirements for an optional concentration must complete 5 courses of 15 credit hours from the list of the concentration electives and 1 course of 3 credit hours from the list of Technical Electives.

Job opportunities:

Computer engineering graduates could find employment in various including IT related organizations, banks, petroleum deployment companies, telecommunication companies, defense, aviation, major oil and gas companies and hospitals. There is demand for computer engineering graduates in different ministries and government institutions, private companies and other multinational contracting and consulting organizations.

Graduates of this programme have a wide choice of career options in computer engineering including within the fields of computer programming, software development, hardware engineering, database administration, web development, network management and administration.
 
BEng Electronics and CCommunication Engineering

This programme prepares the students to be successful Electronic Engineers by imparting the effective teaching of Electronic and Communication Engineering principles with the essential practical skills and understanding to allow the graduates to be capable of practicing and progressing within the industrial environment, as highly skilled engineers and entrepreneurs.
The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of undergraduate work including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project
Electronic and Communication Engineering has two concetrations-1. Telecommunication Engineering 2. Biomedical Engineering
Students must complete 5 courses of 15 credit hours from this concentration electives list and any 1 course of 3 credit hours from Technical Electives list or any course from the other concentrations list

Graduates of this programme have opportunities available in various private and government sectors, such as petroleum development companies, oil and gas companies, hospitals, defense, and aviation.

BEng Electrical Power Engineering

This programme provides qualified graduates with a deeper understanding of fundamentals of electrical power engineering as well as a broader set of professional skills and exposure to other technical disciplines.

The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of undergraduate work including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project Other than the core Electrical Power Engineering there are 2 concentrations-
1. Energy Systems 2.  Control and Instrumentation Engineering

Job opportunities:

Placements are available in various private and government sectors in the fields of electrical power generation, distribution, oil and gas, defense and aviation. There is a strong demand for electrical power engineers in different ministries, private companies and other multinational contracting and consulting organizations.
The programme offers a number of possible career options in electrical power generation, distribution, energy management and utilisation. Attractive career opportunities exist in development, design and production in industry

 
BEng Mechanical Engineering

The BEng Mechanical Engineering (ME) program is a four year degree program for those who want to gain knowledge in a focused area of mechanical engineering to pursue a career in industry or continue in graduate studies. The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of undergraduate work listed in the curriculum below including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project.

BEng Process Operations and Maintenance

The BEng (Process Operations and Maintenance) (POM) program is a four year degree program for those who want to gain knowledge in a focused area of chemical and mechanical engineering to pursue a career in industry or continue in graduate studies. The degree is awarded after the completion of 132 credits of undergraduate work listed in the curriculum below including compulsory industrial internship and Capstone project.

The multifaceted discipline covers process plant operations, chemical plant safety, process control and maintenance management as required in modern oil and gas industry.   It provides you with a specialization in process equipment and design, flow line fabrication and control, operation and maintenance, utilities and service systems

Other than core POM, this has one concentration in   Maintenance Management

Students must complete 5 courses of 15 credit hours from this concentration electives list and any 1 course of 3 credit hours from technical electives list.

Job opportunities: The Process Operations and Maintenance graduates will pursue their career in the fields and occupations covering broadly as practicing engineers, entrepreneurs, teachers and researchers. Master of Science in Asset and Maintenance Management

The MSc in Asset and Maintenance Management provides the graduates with  new knowledge and competencies that are required by maintenance  engineers and managers  in oil and gas industries, petrochemical plants, refineries,  power sectors, public and private infrastructures and  other  industries.

Key subjects like facility management, maintenance strategies, machine condition monitoring, energy efficiency and reliability analysis etc are covered in this  this Programm. Students enrolled in this Programme are required to complete 45 Credits to be awarded the MSc degree which includes (24 Credits – Core courses, 8 Credits- elective courses, 3 Strategies and Methods in Research, 9 Credits-Dissertation course and 1 Credit-Seminar/Oral Presentation/Viva Voce

Job opportunities: Postgraduates student will find opportunity as practicing engineers, mangers and section heads in the middle level or higher level positions in industries and government run institutes/establishments especially in the Oil and Gas sector
 
Master of Science in Construction and Project Management

The M.Sc. program in Construction and Project Management (MSCPM) is designed to prepare graduate students technically and practically with advanced knowledge and skills that match the growing requirements of the construction industry locally, regionally and internationally. Students will gain deep and strong understanding of the construction industry environment and modern management concepts to deal with complexities and challenges associated with the construction environment. The graduates will have concrete understanding about the traditional and modern methods in construction and will enable them to face future challenges

Fundamental courses involve Corporate and Business Management, Operations Analysis and Management, Procurement Methods and Contract Law, and Project Management.  Modern topics include courses such as sustainability in the construction industry, building information modeling in construction, risk management and Economical and financial management for engineers.

Students enrolled in the MSc program of Construction & Project Management requires to complete 45 Credits to be awarded the MSc degree which includes (24 Credits – Core courses, 8 Credits- elective courses, 3 Strategies and Methods in Research, 9 Credits-Dissertation course and 1 Credit-Seminar/Oral Presentation/Viva Voce

Master of Science in Engineering Management

The aim of the Engineering Management program is to provide postgraduate students with a technical and management skills for leadership in engineering organization and enterprises.  This master program is designed for professionals and students of engineering or science who want to pursue leadership and management career paths. The main goal of this program is to help graduates and working professionals to become a more effective with both technical and management skills to lead people and projects.

Master of Science in Information Technology

This programme aims to equip the graduates with an ability to comprehend and implement the benefits of state-of-the-art developments in IT in compliance with professional ethics, health, safety, and environment. They are expected to be competent enough identify and synthesize intelligently the modern IT tools, data management and computing technologies

The program also nurtures independent thinking and creativity that prepares the graduates into research activities and to pursue doctoral degrees in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Could computing , Big data , Cyber security or related disciplines.

The program is structured with three concentrations 32 credits (06 core courses, and 03 specialized courses). Further, the program has given emphasis to research with 13 credits (with 03 courses) to initiate students into research, whereby the graduates will be able to conduct research and present their results in regional/global conferences and publish technical papers apart from gaining impetus to pursue doctoral programs (Ph.D).

Job opportunities: The specialized courses in each concentration provides opportunities to specialize in state-of-the-art technologies. The graduates can find jobs in IT Industries at the Team Leader Level/Managerial Level/Project Leader where they will be able to identify and synthesize intelligently the modern IT tools, data management and find solutions to the problems identified. Master of Science in Chemical Process Engineering

MSc Chemical and Process Engineering  is designed to develop  clear understanding of  chemical and process engineering  discipline  with  number of advanced core courses  that are relevant to the changing priorities and requirements of the modern process industries such as  transport phenomena, applied process design,  reaction engineering, process simulation and process instrumentation etc.. At the completion of the program the students will be equipped  with skills  and knowledge  to have career  aspirations in  chemical and process engineering, operations, management, or consultancy  and be able to contribute in  improving the effectiveness and efficiency of process industries

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering

This programme aims to develop graduates with the technological, and managerial skills with approaches necessary for addressing the ever demanding challenges in the power & energy, oil & gas sectors towards sustainable economic and social development. The graduates will have specialized training in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Utility. The Program also fosters Independent thinking and creativity that prepares the graduates into research activities and to pursue doctoral degrees in electrical engineering or related disciplines.

The Program is structured with 32 credits (06 core courses, and 02 electives) in the broad electrical engineering with a focus in electrical utility, oil & gas, and process engineering sectors. Further, the Program has given emphasis to research with 13 credits (with 03 courses) to initiate students into research, whereby the graduates will be able to conduct research and present their results in regional/global conferences and publish technical papers apart from gaining impetus to pursue doctoral Programs (Ph.D).

Job opportunities: The graduates could find in the government and private sectors in the area of Electrical Installations, manufacturing electrical equipment for testing, other electrical Utilities development.
 
The Foundation Programme

The Foundation Programme is a one-year programme comprised of two semesters, which is aimed at equipping students with necessary knowledge in English, Mathematics, Computing and Study skills to be competent enough to carry out their Degree Programmes.

The Foundation Programme of the University aims at providing a bridging for the students who have completed their Higher Secondary Education in Oman or abroad. This Programme is in alignment with Academic Standards for General Foundation Programmes of Oman Academic Accreditation Authority.

On successful completion of the Foundation Programme at the University, the students are expected to join the engineering or medicine or pharmacy programmes of the university or any other higher education programme in Oman
