One day Symposium on “Challenges in Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR)” concludes at College of Engineering at National University of Science and Tech


Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at College of Engineering of National University of Science and Technology successfully organized a one-day Symposium on “Challenges in Fourth Industrial Revolution” on 11th December 2019 at Conference Hall, Al Hail Campus by focusing the challenges involved in Academia and Industries in teaching and practising the modern future technologies.  Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is the current technological digital revolution in which major focus is on cyber-physical and biological systems such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things, Virtual Reality etc. The impact of 4 IR is more on the education sectors compared to the previous generation’s industrial revolution. Thus this symposium was organized to Understand that Challenges in 4IR.  The symposium hosted two experts, who gave a technical speech on the challenges in 4IR. The objectives of the event is to understand fourth industrial revolution challenges and motivate the students to take up the project aligned to 4IR, to understand the future job requirements in the context of Oman and to prepare our learners for the new careers that are driven by 4IR, to motivate NU students towards their participation in future technology-driven market and to develop institutional agility for 4IR target area.

 

The guest of Honour of the symposium, Mr Hamed Al Hadhrami from Petroleum development Oman gave an opening technical talk on the implications of the fourth industrial revolution and its practices in future industries. Dr. Amur Salim Al Yahmedi from Sultan Qaboos University delivered a session on “Engineering Education in the face of rapidly changing world” by giving more importance to the challenges facing by academia. Another Expert on this field Dr. Shadha Al Amri from Higher College of Technology delivered an expert lecture on “Challenges in the 4th Industrial Revolution in Oman: Skills and Employment” with a focus of technical knowledge required for budding engineers to get employment in the fast-growing engineering field. Dr. Amur and Dr. Shadha were the featured speakers, inspiring participants to upskill to meet the challenges and make their chosen careers more than just a job.

 

Prof. Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, Dean of College of Engineering, National University, welcomed all of the participants in the inaugural function. Dr. R. Amuthakkannan and Dr. Dinesh Keloth Kaithari from MIE Department who are the organizers of the event introduced the guest speakers of the event. Prof. Sudhir C.V, Head of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering recorded a vote of thanks to the Experts and participants at the end of the event. Ms Fatma Al Taie, Level 3 POM Student and Head of Academic committee of student council administered registration and other activities of organizing the event. Overall, MIE Department is very proud of organizing such a wonderful symposium to enable student/staff to understand the importance and implementation issues in 4IR and also thanked the participants and the College Management for all the support and encouragement rendered for this event.
