National University honors the Doctors, Pharmacists and Health Science Graduates (2018 – 2019)

The National University of Science and Technology celebrates the  graduation of a new cohort of students from Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences programs under the patronage of H.E Dr. Rawiyah bint Saud Al - Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education , in the presence of Sheikh Salem bin Said bin Hamad Al Fanah Al Araimi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology, Dr. P Mohammed Ali,  Chairman, University Executive Board NU,  Ms. Khulood bint Mohammad bin Rashed Al Fannah Al Araimi, Mrs. Budoor Mohamed Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi and Ms. Fadwa bint Salem bin Said Al Fannah Al Araimi, Mr. Mohiuddin Mohamed Ali,  Members of the Board of Directors. Dr. Allie Karshenas, Associate Vice President of Clinical Research, Operations and Institutional Advancement at the University of West Virginia represented WVU, affiliated partner of National University of Science and Technology. Prof. Simon Jones, Vice Chancellor, National University of Science & Technology, Dr. Saleh bin Mohamed Al Khusaiby , Dean of College of Medicine and Health Sciences,  Dr. Yaseen Moosa  Al Lawatia , Dean, College of Pharmacy,  Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ali Al Shaffee ,Vice Dean, Clinical Affairs,College of Medicine & Health Sciences, Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Ghailani, Deputy Dean ,College of Pharmacy,  Dr. P.M  Mubarak Pasha, Deputy Dean, College of Medicine & Health Sciences and members of the academic and administrative bodies were also present. 132 students of the eleventh batch of doctors, and 72 students of the twelfth batch of pharmacists, graduated at the ceremony held on the 4th December 2018.

The ceremony began with the National Anthem and recital of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address by Sheikh Salem bin Said bin Hamad Al Fanah Al Araimi . Dr. Allie Karshenas congratulated the graduating students and highlighted the long partnership between the two institutions. Prof. Simon Jones, Vice Chancellor, National University of Science & Technology delivered the welcome address. Dr. P Mohamed Ali honored the former members of the Board of Trustees of Oman Medical College. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Saleh bin Mohamed Al Khusaiby, Dean, College of Medicine and Health Sciences.

The Patron of the ceremony, H.E Dr. Rawiyahbint Saud  Al - Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education, honored the students with special awards sponsored by Sheikh Salim bin Said Al Fannah Al Araimi and Ms. KhuloodAl Araimi in the name of Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi for excellence in academics and community service activities. The recipients of the academic excellence awards were Maryam Salim Muftah Al-Yaaqoubi and Alaa Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Soliman. The recipients of the award for excellence in extracurricular activities and community service are Zaid Maqbool Al Khabouri, Sultan Mohammad Al Mazroui, Gehad Adel Atwa Hassan, Tharaya Juma Matar and Saleh Al Balushi. Dr.P. Mohammed Ali, Chairman, University Executive Board, NU is the sponsor of the International Training Award. The awardees in the B. Pharm program are Alaa Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Soliman and Tasneem Tarig Ibrahim Eltayeb.

Maryam Salim Muftah Al-Yaaqoubi, Alaa Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Soliman,and Tasneem Tarig Ibrahim Eltayeb were honored for achieving distinction in Medicine and Pharmacy Programs.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors ofNU, Sheikh Salem bin Said bin Hamad Al Fanah Al Araimi and Dr. P Mohammed Ali, Chairman, University Executive Board  NU presented a memento to H.E Dr. Rawiyah bint Saud al - Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education.

It was a proud moment for National University of Science and Technology as it is the first and only private medical school in the country which has been providing high quality education to the students from Oman as well as from other countries since 2001. Till date, 786 have graduated with MD degree, 587 with B. Pharm degree and 92 with a degree in Health Sciences.

The program concluded with sincere thanks to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said for his visionary leadership and with prayers to Almighty for his good health and long life. The management of National University of Science and Technology congratulated the graduating students and their parents. The support of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health was duly acknowledged.

The National University of Science & Technology, a rising star, in the galaxy of private universities in the Sultanate has been founded with an aim to transform the educational landscape in Oman and the region. It has inherited the legacy of two highly successful professional colleges in Oman renowned for excellence in Education & Research, namely, the erstwhile Caledonian College of Engineering and The Oman Medical College. Both these Colleges have established a reputation for delivering high-quality education and training to aspiring Engineering, Medicine and Pharmacy students.
