College of Engineering

The National University of Science and Technology (NU), Sultanate of Oman, whose aim is to contribute to the development of the higher education sector of the country, is commencing its operation in the Academic Year 2018-19. This University is formed by merging three existing higher educational institutions in the area of engineering, medicine and pharmacy into one entity. Accordingly, this is a multi-campus institution focused on offering undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees.

Currently, the university operates out of five campuses and sites of learning namely:

The five campuses offer a variety of programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and they also provide opportunities for continuing education and lifelong learning. The programs are designed to be responsive to the needs of industry and national development priorities and are offered in the areas which include engineering, medicine, pharmacy and health sciences with the intention to expand further.

The University also offers short courses and industry-specific training programs primarily through its Continuing Education and Corporate Training Centre in a range of areas including engineering, management, Laboratory practice and software.

Entry of Mature Students (Faculty  of Engineering)

Based on the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Higher Education for the mature students, applicants of age 25 and above but below 45, with minimum of 6 years work experience and have completed 9 years of school with pass, are eligible for direct entry to Foundation Programme. On successful completion of the Foundation Programme, they will progress on to the Engineering Programme they applied. The candidates should obtain approval from Ministry of Higher Education regarding their admission.

Credit Transfer

The University has a procedure for Module Credit Transfer, if a candidate seeking admission to University holds higher qualifications complying with Oman Qualification Framework.

A candidate who is eligible to apply for Credit Transfer must complete the procedures two weeks prior to the commencement of studies.

Entry Requirements
  1. One of the following academic qualifications are accepted for admission:
    1. General Education Diploma (GED)
    2. All foreign certificates, complemented with a Letter of Equivalence, if required
    3. All international certificates, complemented with a Letter of Equivalence
    4. Any other 12-year-school leaving certificates, complemented with a Letter of Equivalence
  2. Minimum admission criteria required for admission:

    Bachelor’s Program in Pharmacy

    Bachelor’s Programs in Engineering

    GED or Equivalent with grade not less than C in the following subject put together
    Pure/ Applied Mathematics
    Physics/Chemistry or Industrial/Technical subjects; depending on the area of engineering chosen (Prior study of Chemistry for those joining Chemical Engineering).

  3. The calculation of the Admission Score for holders of international certificates will be based on the Conversion Table provided in HEAC guide.
  4. Applicants to the Medicine program shall undergo an interview.
  5. Applicants may apply for direct entry to Year 1 of the program by taking the University Placement Test. The University Placement Test includes all components of GFP, i.e. English, math and IT.
  6. Open to students of all nationalities
